Purdue Acacia Scholarship Opportunities and Leadership Award Opportunities

The Leonard Wood (Woody) Scholarship

Leonard Wood was a well-known engineering professor at Purdue and Acacia’s beloved chapter advisor for over 25 years. Woody is also one of seven current Legacy Greats in Acacia’s rich history. Upon his passing Woody set up an endowment and investment fund to help provide scholarships to Purdue Acacia brothers based upon leadership, character and values and academic merit. Each year and subject to being nominated, typically 4-5 scholarships are announced for Purdue Acacia brothers and typically between $2,500 and $4,000.

The Atkinson Scholarship

Charles Atkinson was a highly regarded Acacia and when his son Jack passed away, he set up a scholarship fund to assist Purdue students in financial need who also showed strong academic merit.  Acacia has always held a priority selection position with this endowment and nomination process.  Annually, an average of 4-5 scholarships in the amount of $5,000 to $,7500 are given to the most deserving Purdue Acacia brothers who need financial assistance. These scholarships are generally renewed for two consecutive semesters.

The Purdue Initiate Leadership Development Award

With each pledge class, each new initiate in good standing is eligible to receive a $1,000 leadership development award upon initiation to the Purdue chapter and having a semester GPA of 3.0 or higher and demonstrated plans to live in the chapter house. This award is given to all eligible new initiates in the spirit of Acacia’s long legacy of producing chapter and campus leaders and future leaders in life.

The Purdue Acacia Senior Leadership Recognition Award

For those students who choose to live in the fraternity house during their senior year and provide important leadership and mentoring to younger brothers, these active members will receive a $625 leadership award per semester or $1,250 for the full senior year. Seniors must be in good academic and character standing with the University and the Acacia fraternity chapter.

Acacia National Merit Scholarships

At Acacia’s National annual conclave held among 28 chapters a series of $1,000 merit scholarships are made to outstanding undergraduate students from active chapters. These scholarships cover several areas of excellence demonstrated among distinguished undergraduates across the country.
